  • [Henderson's] the difference in the abil­ity of individuals of different genetic types to acquire mates, and therefore the differ­ential transmission of certain character­istics to the next generation. It is made up of the choices made between males and females on the basis of some outward characteristic such as bright plumage or length of tail in birds, and competition between members of the same sex.
