Definition

  • Rate of decomposition (decaying) of deadwood in forest. Usually is expressed in decaying classes (1, less decayed or just dead, to 5 almost completely decayed). Deadwood is made up by dead branches, dead stems, stump remnants or dead trees (complete). The volume or biomass of deadwood in a forest is taken as an estimate of the suitability of that forest to host hifgher biodiversity of saproxilic fauna (fauna that lives on dead matter)
