Definition

[Henderson's] a measure of the osmotic activity of a solution, deﬁned as the minimum pressure that must be exerted to prevent the passage of pure solvent into the solution when the two are separated by a semipermeable membrane. Osmotic pressure is proportional to solute concentration.
