Definition
- [Henderson's] the number of mutations occurring in a population over some spe­cified unit of time. The units used as the time denominator are commonly the total number of cell divisions or the total genera­tion spans of the cells or organisms. The spontaneous mutation rate seems to vary between different organisms and between different genes. cf. mutation frequency.
