Definition
- Hierarchical classification of perennial and recurring streams, originally developed by Robert E. Horton and Arthur Newell Strahler. Stream order numbers, also called Strahler stream order, are used to define stream size based on a hierarchy of tributaries. Alternative stream ordering systems have been developed by Shreve and Hodgkinson.
